One wonders why anyone would take a prescription drug? Have ya ever read the "possible side effects?" Most are worst than the original problem. Really, ya get a prescription to help ya sleep because of any number of reasons. Ya haven't slept well for a few days? Down the hatch goes the "pill" and then with some feeling of relief you read the info supplied with the "pills." "Possible side effects:" (you head to the bathroom to take care of the urge that has suddenly come upon you) "may cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, etc...;"as you sit for what seems like hours your body begins to feel weak from all the fluids you've just lost, but still you look forward to a good night's sleep. You get up and as you're wiping your face you notice a few large red bumps, along with a lot of smaller ones. You quickly re-read the "Possible side effects," there it is "may cause rash." A certain feeling of worry sets in. As you continue to clean up for that restful night, out comes the tooth brush : as you brush; your gums seem tender. Yep blood on the tooth brush! Back to the "possible side effects;" There it is on page 2, "May cause bleeding from the mouth." Worry now has completely set in. As you frantically search for the "Possible Side Effect" info, your eyes start to water and you have started to sneeze. Suddenly the "Urge"" returns and its back to the toilet. In between sneezes you call for your wife. She responds and reads (from page #3) "Possible side effects;" may cause (ha-choo- bless you) watery eyes and sneezing. GREAT!! After you sit on your throne; for quite some time, cramps worry, sneezing worry, diarrhea worry, eyes watering (ha'choo) so that its impossible to focus, you clean up hoping its all over. That is when you vomit! Exhausted; your body depleted of all fluids, your face (arms too?) looking like a pin cushion, you stumble off to bed (a tissue to wipe the blood from your mouth by your bed side). You fall asleep immediately-, exhausted from "possible side effects." Modern medicine is great! -Thoughts from an old person- June 30, 2006 |
